Fusion technology activities

AREVA NP GmbH, the German subsidiary of AREVA NP, is comprehensively participating in the development of nuclear fusion as a viable future energy source. Within the frame of engineering services for ITER, the activities of AREVA NP GmbH comprise the overall plant design. They concentrate in particular on the design and analysis of vessel/in-vessel components, remote handling equipment as well as tokamak and plant assembly procedures and tools.
These areas will also be of interest for ITER construction, both in terms of engineering and supply AREVA NP GmbH supplied prototype divertor handling devices (Divertor Cassette Movers) for the Divertor Test Platform at Brasimone (Italy), one of the large EU R&D projects for ITER.
Following the evolution of ITER, the designs of these devices have been updated and the involvement has been expanded to hot cell remote handling equipment.
In addition, AREVA NP GmbH is involved in the European studies regarding the safety and environmental assessment of fusion power and in the conceptual design of DEMO and future fusion power plants performed within the European Fusion Programme.
